Simple Ways To Help Better Your Life

  1. Remain optimistic no matter the circumstance. Bad things happen, but that doesn’t mean it has to bother you. Like the famous quote from Shakespeare states, “For there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.”
  2. Own Yourself. Stop worrying about your outside image and what others will think of it. You are beautiful and unique just the way you are and should learn to accept that.
  3. Make just enough money to remain comfortable. Studies show that money beyond basic standards doesn’t necessarily make you happier.
  4. Treat your body well. Become active, and your body will release natural “feel good” chemicals in the brain such as endorphin’s to increase your mood and overall well being. The feeling of accomplishment itself will better your mood and people who are active have higher incidences of enthusiasm and excitement.
  5. Eat well. Nutrition is often underestimated in the positive effects it can give you and your mood. Be sure to eat plenty of green vegetables and fruits and to keep a well balanced diet. Try to avoid sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and all that other bad stuff is most foods nowadays.
  6. Remain close to friends and family. Better yet, remain close to those you love and adore, no matter who they are. Before you accept that out of state job with the large salary increase, remember that no amount of money is worth the loss of your loved ones.
  7. Be compassionate. Do something that won’t only benefit yourself, but others around you as well. Volunteering, tutoring, or even buying the person behind you in line at Starbucks a cup of coffee will spark something inside of you to help better your day.
  8. Talk to strangers. I know, this goes against everything your parents taught you as a kid, but the truth is that all strangers aren’t bad people. You’ll be amazed at some of the fascinating stories you hear from the people you meet and may even develop some meaningful friendships.
  9. Find happiness in your current workplace. Let’s be real, if you hate your current job, you probably can’t just get up and quite do to financial reasons. If you don’t like your job, start looking for something else. In the meantime, try to enjoy where you work now until that new opportunity comes along. Rather than relying on your job for happiness, use it as a crutch and find your happiness at home or outside of work to get you through your work days.
  10. Smile. Studies suggest that even if you smile whether you are happy or not, your mood will improve. Better yet, why not just find a reason to smile?
  11. Forgive. Studies show that forgiveness actually lowers your amount of stress and is better for your heart. Regardless of its health benefits, forgiveness is something you should always consider when holding a grudge against someone. Why hate? You’re better off to forgive and forget.
  12. Don’t compare your place in life to others. This is very easy to become a victim of but is also an easy way to become unhappy with your own self. Happiness isn’t defined by material things, but rather by your optimism.
  13. Go outside. Don’t stay cooped up in your apartment or your house. Go outside, soak in some vitamin D, and enjoy some nature!
